Sedation Dentistry in Irving, Texas

Here at DFW Dental Service, we are committed to our patients’ comfort. Nearly every day, we encounter patients who are nervous about receiving treatment. This could be due to a fear of pain or a prior experience. Fortunately, these issues can almost always be overcome through the use of dental sedation.

At DFW Dental Service, we provide sedation for two primary reasons. The first is to prevent a patient from experiencing any physical pain or discomfort while they are receiving treatment. The second is to help a patient remain calm and relaxed allowing us to effectively provide treatment. When sedation is used, we closely monitor the process to ensure that the patient is kept safe.

DFW Dental Service offers the following types of sedation for patients:

  • Local Anesthesia: A local anesthetic refers to medicine that is designed to numb the immediate area where dental work is going to be done. By numbing the area with a local anesthetic, a patient is much less likely to experience significant pain while work is being completed. In terms of pain management, local anesthetics are very effective. It is also possible to use a local anesthetic along with other types of sedation so that the patient experiences both pain management and anxiety reduction.
  • Oral Sedation: An oral sedative is a pill that is taken about 30 minutes to an hour before treatment. This type of sedation will help you feel relaxed and drowsy. The effects of oral sedation can last for a while, so you will need someone to drive you home after treatment.
  • Laughing Gas: Laughing gas is a gaseous substance that is inhaled by the patient through a special mask. The medicine goes into effect quickly, and the patient will immediately become free of any feelings associated with anxiety or nervousness. These negative feelings will be replaced with sensations of comfort, well-being and giddiness. In this state, the patient will have no problem with allowing our experts to perform dental work. Some benefits of laughing gas include its short duration, its ease of use and its overall safety. Most patients who receive laughing gas are able to immediately continue on with their day.
  • IV Sedation: A patient receiving IV sedation will have medicine injected into their vein. This medicine will go a long way towards managing pain and helping a patient remain calm during treatment. By injecting the medicine, the patient will begin to feel the effects almost immediately. From there, our experts will be able to adjust the level of provided sedation throughout the procedure. Most patients who receive IV sedation are unaware of their surroundings while they are under the effects of the medicine. You will be required to have someone to drive you home after treatment.

Please do not hesitate to ask us about dental sedation prior to your next treatment. At DFW Dental Service, we want to make your visit calm and relaxing. We understand how helpful sedation can be when receiving needed dental care. Please call us at (214) 960-2291 to schedule an appointment.

Our Happy Patients

"I recommend this office to anyone who wants a dentist that is HONEST, professional, and experienced. I saw another dentist previously, who was quoting me much more work than necessary, and over 10x the price out of pocket after insurance. I had a difficult root canal that required more time than expected. The office got me in quickly, and has extended hours."

Marie B.

"First time here. Staff was very friendly, informative and really works with you. They're down to earth people that care about helping you. They're prices are affordable. I came here after going to a very ritzy dentist that only saw me as a payment and not a customer. Here they really were interested in helping me with my dental concerns. And I really appreciated that. I'm a customer for life and my family is too. Everyone deserves a dentist like this."

Vick A.

"I love Dr Davis and his staff! Worked me in on Saturday to evaluate my issue and put me on the path to healing. It takes me over an hour to get to his office but to be honest I would drive any distance to have him for my dentist! Always leave his office with a smile! 😀"
